RayStorm HD is a high-definition re-release of RayStorm that was released for the Xbox 360 through Xbox LIVE Arcade worldwide on May 6, 2010, and for PlayStation 3 through PlayStation Network on May 6 the same year only in Japan. There may have been plans for an overseas release of this game on PlayStation Network, but for reasons unknown was canceled.
Some of the changes of this re-release compared to the original versions on arcade and home ports are the visuals have been remade with new high-definition graphics (720p) with a 16:9 widescreen display. This version also features the ability to compete against players through online leaderboards and the ability to share replays of their playthrough (up until the first credit) that can be viewed by other players. Another addition with this version are the two new unlockable ships: the R-GRAY 0, which was previously available only in the 13-Plane Mode and has been redesigned to resemble and play similarly to the RVA-818 X-LAY from RayForce, and the R-GEAR, named after the canceled would-be RayForce sequel of the same name.
